When the 2027 prom season falls

New York City public high schools finish the 2026 to 2027 year on Monday, June 28, 2027. Regents exams run June 15 to 18 and June 21 to 25. Schools close for Eid al-Adha on May 17 and for Memorial Day on May 31, and students do not attend on Anniversary Day, June 10. Those are the fixed dates on the public school calendar. The prom date itself comes from the school. Private, parochial and charter schools have their own calendars. Check your school's date first.

Book May and June weekends early. We have 2 Luxury Sprinters. Book one the same week the school confirms the date.

What a parent can check before the night

In New York City, for-hire rides must be booked through a base licensed by the TLC. The TLC lists what you can check on the car itself. The license plate has T&LC stamped along the bottom. The car has a decal with its TLC license number and expiration date. And the chauffeur's TLC license should be on display.

You can check the base too. The TLC lists current bases on NYC Open Data. Look up the company by name before you pay anything. Luxury limousine bases only take trips booked ahead. A car offering a ride at the curb after prom, with no booking, is not a licensed limousine.

Each company sets its own rules inside the car. There's no smoking in any of our vehicles. Ask for the other rules in writing when you book, including the alcohol policy and what happens if someone breaks a rule during the night.

Alcohol and New York law

Under section 65-c of New York's Alcoholic Beverage Control Law, no one under 21 may possess an alcoholic beverage with intent to drink it, with two narrow exceptions. If a court upholds the charge, it can order a fine of up to $50, an alcohol awareness program or up to 30 hours of community service. It can also order a mix of these. Police can also take alcohol held in the open.

Decide it before the night. The parents agree on one rule for the group and send it to us with the passenger list. Then the chauffeur and the students hear the same thing.

Photo stops and curb rules

Plan extra time for the photo stop. Central Park's Conservatory Garden, off Fifth Avenue between 104th and 105th Streets, needs a photography permit for prom pictures and other staged photos. Apply at least 10 days ahead through the Central Park Conservancy. Other gardens and venues have their own rules. Check your spot well before the night.

The car can't wait at the curb during photos. NYC DOT rules allow a car to stop at a No Standing sign to drop off or pick up passengers, but not to wait there. Double parking is never allowed, and city law limits idling to 3 minutes, or 1 minute next to a school or park. So the plan names the corner where we drop the group, how long the stop lasts, and the corner where the group walks back to the car.

A prom night, hour by hour

This plan assumes a prom from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM, one Sprinter and a group of 12 picked up from four homes. For a different start time, move each line.

  1. 5:00 PM, first pickup. The Sprinter picks up in the order agreed the day before, with 10 to 15 minutes at each home for photos on the doorstep.
  2. 5:45 PM, last pickup. The whole group is in, and the chauffeur has the phone number of the parent in charge for the night.
  3. 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM, photo stop. Drop-off at one corner, pickup at another, with the end time set in advance.
  4. 6:45 PM, arrival at the venue, 15 minutes before the doors open and ahead of the line of cars.
  5. 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM, the prom. The chauffeur waits nearby. The ride home is part of the same booking. Nobody has to book a car late at night.
  6. 11:00 PM, pickup. The car is at a corner near the exit, at a time the group already knows.
  7. Midnight, last drop-off. Homes in reverse order, or everyone to one address if the parents prefer.

From the first pickup at 5:00 PM to the last drop-off at midnight is 7 hours, billed as one hourly booking. If the group only needs a ride there and parents pick up at the end, that fits 3 hours, our shortest hourly booking. Hourly bookings are charged the hourly fare with NYC sales tax and the Black Car Fund at booking. Tolls and parking are charged after the ride to the card saved at booking, each with an itemized receipt. A gratuity for your chauffeur is optional and chosen when you book. Current hourly rates by class are on the rates page.

What to send us the day before

Send us one message the day before with everything below. It saves time on the night.

  • Every pickup address in order, with the two nearest cross streets and the door to use.
  • The photo stop, with its drop-off corner, its pickup corner and its end time.
  • The venue address and the entrance the school has told families to use.
  • The return window and every drop-off address, or the single address if the group ends in one place.
  • One parent's name and phone number as the contact for the night, and a phone number for every rider.
  • The number of passengers, counting each student. Each Sprinter seats 12, and no more.

One Sprinter or two SUVs

A Luxury Sprinter seats 12 and takes 10 large and 2 small bags. A group of 12 fits in one, and everyone arrives together. Two Business SUVs carry 10 between them, 5 each with 3 large and 3 small bags, and they arrive as two groups at two times. The Limo Sprinter has bench seating with a bar and a screen, and the Jet Sprinter has captain's chairs facing a screen. Both are on our Sprinter limousine service for prom groups page, and the seats and bags of each car are in the full fleet list.

How prom night is priced

Prom is one hourly booking, priced by vehicle class with a 3-hour minimum, because the car stays with the group all night. Home pickups, the photo stop and the venue fit in one booking. Book May and June dates early.
